Another side of the Allen Lee story

(MG) It's interesting to get another perspective (from a source other than the frequently pathetic Chicago Tribune) on the Allen Lee gets arrested for writing an in-class essay as was assigned story. Here's what the Daily Herald had to say:

What school officials found 'disturbing'

Posted Friday, April 27, 2007

The writing that led to the arrest of a Cary-Grove High School senior this week was riddled with statements alluding to a school shooting, drugs and sex with dead bodies.

(MG) "Was riddled with" what an interesting verbal construction. Sounds perjorative. Checking on a dictionary definition of riddled (vt) –verb (used without object) to propound riddles; speak enigmatically

Allen W. Lee, 18, of Cary, wrote during a Monday creative writing class "as a teacher, don't be surprised on inspiring the first CG shooting," according to the criminal complaint released late this afternoon as authorities approved a second misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct.

(MG) This jives with Mr. Lee's story as reported by the Chicago Tribune.

The complaint also says he wrote: "Blood, sex and booze. Drugs, drugs, drugs are fun. Stab, stab, stab, stab, stab, s...t...a...b..., puke. So I had this dream last night where I went into a building, pulled out two P 90s and started shooting everyone, then had sex with the dead bodies. Well, not really, but it would be funny if I did."

(MG) Two papers, speaking as if one.

But the student's attorney, Dane Loizzo, said Lee was well within the confines of the assignment. Loizzo said the instructions included writing for a set period of time and to not censor anything.

(MG) Attorney Loizzo's assertin is either true or false. However, there is an inconsistency with the original Tribune story which said the students could not use violence directed directly at specific individuals, or violence directed at one's self.

"This was a free writing," Loizzo said. "It is very important to understand that the assignment was to write without parameters. A stream of consciousness seems to be the goal of the assignment."

(MG) "SEEMS" to be the goal of the assignment? Why the hell not just ask the teacher about the goal of the assingment.

Lee's essay was forwarded by the teacher, Nora Capron, on to her boss, and then to the school's principal, who contacted police.

(MG) kind of like Tinkers to Evers to Chance -- except it keeps looking more and more like Curly to Moe to Larry. (These are insults of the teacher, her boss and the schools' principal -- just making myself clear here -- and the chief of police is STILL Barney Fife).

Lee, a senior, was arrested near his home Tuesday. He faces a $1,500 fine and 30 days in jail if convicted.

Lee said at his home after school today that Capron directed students to basically write whatever they wanted.

"The assignment said on the top not to judge or censor what we write," said Lee, who forwarded further questions on to his attorney.

Lee said that he is an A student and ranked about 21st out of a class near 450. He plans to enter the Marines after graduation.

The district is still assessing Lee's punishment, said Jeffrey Puma, spokesman for Crystal Lake High School District 155. Lee was attending one of the district's off-site learning programs Thursday, and was not in Cary-Grove High School, he said.

"At this point, I'm just trying to get back in school," Lee said.

McHenry County State's Attorney Louis Bianchi admitted that last week's events at Virginia Tech University, when a gunman killed 32 people, played a part in law enforcement's reaction to Lee's writings.

(MG) what part? the part about rabid slanty-eyed yellow skinned furrinners completing an in class school assignment?

"We have to take these things very seriously when we're dealing with students in a classroom setting," he said.

(MG) WTF exactly are "THESE THINGS"

According to the complaint Lee wrote "in such an unreasonable manner as to alarm and disturb Nora K. Capron and to provoke a breach of the peace."

(MG) ok .. his wrote in an UNREASONABLE MANNER? compared to what?

(MG) Oh .. so, when Nora K. Capron (sounds an awful lot like CAPON) gets alarmed and disturbed, a provocative breach of the peace ensues? WELL .. yes, the manifestly unfit to teach public high-school students WAS in fact provoked enough to breach the peace ... apparently there was peace in the HS, and then ding-a-ling (who is giving female english teachers a bad rep, btw) unprepared to meet the world of teen-aged hyperbole, keeps appealing to a higher power .. yes, CAPRON'S ACTIONS are what caused the breach. This bantom weight has AGENCY in this matter.

Puma said that the district's response was no different than what it would have been prior to the Virginia Tech tragedy. However, teachers were instructed by their principals to be more alert after threatening graffiti message was found in a bathroom at Crystal Lake Central High School last week.

(MG) Question .. what if the essay had been written by the principal's son?

(MG) Question .. what if the essay had been written by the son of a member of the Cary-Grove board of education?

(MG) Question -- would the response have been the same?

"Our teachers were instructed to be more vigilant," Puma said. "But that was more from a physical standpoint, to keep an eye out."

(MG) More the fuck vigilant than WHAT?

(MG) From a physical stand point .. to keep an eye out? What sloppy fucking thinking. An eye for an eye .. what a hackneyed metaphor ... idiot PUMA can't think straight.

Bianchi declined comment when asked whether Lee's writings were something police believe he intended to act out or whether they, as the student suggests, were done in jest.

(MG) Oh .. and just why did Bianchi REFUSE to comment? Because, if they TRULY thought that Mr. Lee was going to act out, as I have written before .. they would have gotten a court order, called 911, had an ambulance show up, put Mr. Lee onto a gurney, into the ambulance, and carted his sorry ass off to a mental ward, for testing and evaluaiton. They also likely would have injected him full of poison (drugs) to calm him down. They also would have likely strapped his arms and legs to a bed in a solitary room and waited till he calmed down.

(MG) I know this fucking drill. Been there. Done that.

(MG) Their very failure to go through these procedures proves they did NOT consider Mr. Lee to be a threat ... just a nuisance ... a slanty-eyed, yellow-skinned, uppity furr-inner .. who was most guilty of failure to appreciate brownies and krispie treats.

Ed Yohnka, a spokesman for the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois, said that he doesn't think the ordeal should have led to criminal charges because the paper was kept between Lee and his teacher.

(MG) What an interesting point.

"If you post it on the Internet or post fliers in the bathroom, that would be disruptive," he said. "But all he did was share it with his teacher. The teacher is the one that forwarded it on to her boss and then on to police."

(MG) No shit. This idiot teacher is the one who created the disturbance ... on a karmic day, that which goes around will come around.
