Arlington Heights man found dead after striking tree

A 79-year-old Arlington Heights man was found dead this afternoon after his car struck a tree, according to police.

A witness called 911 at 4:09 p.m. reporting the accident on the 1000 block of South Walnut Road. Responding police and fire personnel found the man lifeless in the vehicle, authorities said

Tire impressions in the snow indicate the car was being driven on the west-side shoulder of Walnut Road before crossing the road and striking a parkway tree, police said.

Paramedics took the man to Northwest Community Hospital, but doctors were not able to revive him, according to police.

The man's name is being withheld until his family is notified.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday morning. Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the accident to call police at (847) 368-5300.
