Inability to understand and react to the power of the internet

Alan Mutter, whose Reflections of a Newsosaur blog is a must read for lovers of newspapers interviews Bill Atkinson, former columnists for the Baltimore Sun who suggests that:


... [M]anagement has driven away more advertisers and turned off more readers over the years because of its inability to understand the power of the Internet and react to it.

For years, we have watched management struggle to figure out how to reach readers and service advertisers. For years we've watched them ignore their clunky websites because they were too busy dreaming up products that ultimately flopped. Today, the employees are the ones paying the price.
