KTUU-TV reports that the large animal kicked Michael Barnes in the head. Witnesses say the moose knocked him unconscious, but he was awake and crying when emergency crews took him to a hospital.
The boy's grandfather told KTUU that the boy was sedated Monday night and his family won't know his condition until he awakens.
A neighbor, Thais Holladay, says she thinks the moose was spooked by a loose dog.
