Now the Sign Reads “I’m a 47%’er”

The Republican presidential campaign seems to have gone off the track this week.

It’s never good when a candidate has to spend all his campaign time explaining what he “really” meant. That was probably NOT what the campaign had in mind when it “reset” the GOP campaign master plan.

Mitt Romney was caught writing off 47% of Americans who don’t pay income tax. He averred that they all vote for Obama. He was contemptuous of this group. Who are they?

I’m teaching 200 of these people Romney has written off. They are college students for goodness sake! Many of them will NOT vote for Obama but I expect they are now ticked off at being called slackers.

They work for minimum wage at local restaurants, dry cleaners, grocery stores, at a gas station, bar, tanning salon, coffee house.

I’m speaking to a group of elderly non-tax paying slackers at a retirement community about the Middle East crisis in a couple of weeks.

This week we created another 400+ of these non income tax payers in Iowa because the Republicans in Congress cut the wind power tax credit so one of our wind turbine companies has had to lay them off.

What percent of rich people shelter their income from taxes? Were any of those folks at the tony fund raiser where Romney stuck his foot into his mouth not paying any taxes? And of course, those folks will also be sucking from the government trough – Medicare, Social Security, prescription drug benefits, etc. – when they retire. Even Mitt Romney will get these benefits!

I don’t understand?! What was Romney thinking?

Will it make a difference? It may actually help pump up Romney’s base which hates all the slackers and “free foodies” who are out there getting a free ride. This could give Republicans a bounce. We will see.
