A Des Moines man told police he was shot at an apartment building north of downtown Des Moines Saturday afternoon.
Terry Wayne Young arrived at Mercy Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his lower leg at about 3:20 p.m., according to a Des Moines police report. A bullet had gone through his leg, but the injury was not expected to be life threatening. Young was in serious but stable condition, police said.
Young told police he had gone to 911 Crocker St. to pick up his nephew. Young could not provide an apartment number for his nephew, police said.
Young encountered two men while walking upstairs to the second floor of building No. 4 at the Crocker Street address when two men ran past him. One man, Young told police, was bald and wore a white jacket with blue stripes. Young told police he heard a gunshot, but continued upstairs.
Young reported feeling a sharp pain in his left leg and realized he had been shot. Young told police he believed the bald man shot him, but he did not see a gun.
Young said he met his 39-year-old nephew, who drove Young to Mercy in Young’s car. Police at the hospital were unable to locate the nephew. Police cordoned off portions of the parking lot at 911 Crocker and crime scene technicians searched for evidence. No witnesses were located, police said.
