Since when has it been the job of law-enforcement officers to ticket and fine us for the purpose of collecting revenue?

I feel sorry for the Japanese, but maybe this will curtail auto imports. By doing so, maybe people in the United States will become true Americans and purchase American-made vehicles owned by American companies. This would stimulate the U.S. economy and reduce unemployment.

My brother just lost his job after 30 years and they gave it to a 20-year-old for less pay. He never took his vacation, called in sick or took time off, and he offered to take a pay cut. This is why we need unions.

I recently read about your state legislature trying to pass a law that would make the undercover filming of farm animal abuse illegal. These animals exist solely to feed, clothe, etc. human beings. Why not make their brief lives tolerable? They are unable to fight for themselves, and the industry is so rampant with corruption and refusal to regulate itself — someone must act as spokesmen for these creatures.

I wish the USA would see the problems in our own country as critical as the rest of the worlds’ when a crisis happens. Why don’t we fix this country first? We are on the brink of a national disaster of our own. Why isn’t anybody doing anything about us?

$67,000 for playground equipment, $40,700 for a trail and basketball court at a city park on the western edge of Urbandale. Just another “lift your hind leg” salute from the city to residents who want a city dog park and would help pay for a dog park through fees, unlike people using this park.

Why did the IPERS Board opt to raise the employers’ share of withholding? Seems to me, if the employees want/need a larger contribution to their retirement, they should be willing to contribute more rather than to burden the already over-loaded taxpayers.

To the teenager who stole my disc on hole 16 of Grandview Disc Golf Park in Des Moines: that was my favorite disc, and your malicious theft has lowered my faith in humanity.
