Asparagus Arrives
Workers cover a large asparagus field in the eastern German state of Thuringia. As spring-like weather sweeps the nation, Germany's annual asparagus season has begun. More than 80,000 tons of asparagus are produced in the country's fields each year, most of which is distributed throughout Europe. During the season, Germans debate where the best asparagus comes from and restaurants compete for the most imaginative use of the vegetable.
