Nuclear plant transformer trips 02/02/2011, 12:52 pm

One of the two generating units at the Exelon nuclear plant in Brookfield Township automatically shut down Tuesday night. Plant officials said a transformer tripped, leading to the shutdown at 7:18 p.m., with the cause under investigation as of Wednesday morning. Station personnel are looking at a possible fault in the transformer. Power outages from the blizzard are not related to the shutdown. Officials noted the plant responded safely when the shutdown occurred.
