Weather continues to force cancellations and closings 02/03/2011, 1:01 pm




As of 11 a.m. Thursday, the following events and locations have been affected by the blizzard in the La Salle County area:
  • St. Mary's Hospital, Streator, has canceled the following events: Thursday, Feb. 3: "Women and Heart Disease" presentation.
  • According to Illinois Statehouse News, the Illinois House of Representatives and Senate have canceled sessions and committees this week. Both are set to reconvene Tuesday, Feb. 8.
  • The La Salle County Health Department, including all Women Infants Children offices, will be closed Thursday.
  • Wallace Elementary canceled the following events for Thursday, Feb. 3: Academic meet with Streator, volleyball with Marseilles, and seventh-grade boys basketball regional at Normal Epiphany. The basketball game will be played Friday at 6 p.m. The preschool open house has also been canceled. Registration is still underway and materials can be received by calling the office, 815-433-2986. An open house will be 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, when the classroom can be visited. Also, parent-teacher conferences slated for Thursday will be conducted at the same scheduled times on Friday, Feb. 4. If that time does not work, call the office.
  • Tonight’s Illinois Valley Community College women’s and men’s basketball games at Kishwaukee Community College have been postponed due to weather conditions.
    Athletic Director and men’s coach Tommy Canale said the Arrowhead Conference games will be rescheduled. Both teams host Olive Harvey Saturday, the women at 1 p.m. and the men at 3 p.m.
  • Reddick Library in Ottawa is closed Thursday, in order to allow time for snow removal.
  • The County Seat Bluegrass Jam, scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at Ottawa Christ Episcopal Church, has been canceled.
  • Illinois Valley Community College and IVCC Ottawa Center reopened noon Thursday, with all college operations and services resuming.
