Programs celebrate Black History Month


Programs celebrate Black History Month

A musical program will be among a series of events celebrating February as Black History Month in Billings.

The All Nations Choir will sing gospel music at Parmly Billings Library at 7 p.m. on Feb. 8, followed by jazz and blues by the Lloyd Marsh Band and Brick House Band.

Billings Mayor Tom Hanel will give the welcome.

Other programs at the library at 7 p.m. will be:

Feb. 10, Christine Pierce will discuss the history of Memorial Day.

Feb. 22, Ruth Curtis and Theodore Payne will talk about the Freedom Riders.

Feb. 24, Jeri Tate will talk about slavery around the world.

On Feb. 7, an evening of poetry will be at Montana State University Billings' Student Union Building in the fireplace lounge off the main lobby. Members of the public are welcome to read their own or other favorite poems. Michele Terry will host the program.

A film series will be at Parmly Billings Library at 11 a.m.:

Feb. 12, “A Piece of the Action.”

Feb. 19, “Uptown Saturday Night.”

Feb. 26, “Goodbye Solo.”

The closing program will be at 3 p.m. Feb. 27 at Wayman Chapel, 402 S. 25th St., followed by a fashion show and potluck.
