An Elgin woman found a note in her door asking for an undisclosed amount of cash to return her aunt’s identification and Social Security cards at 6 a.m. Tuesday in the 800 block of Joyce Lane, according to a police report. The note advised the woman to place a note in the window indicating cooperation, according to the extortion report.
&bul; Jose Lopez, 20, of the 600 block of Jay Street, was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana after police found him smoking it in a car just after midnight Wednesday on the 800 block of Hastings Street, according to a police report. Lopez posted $120 bond and was released from custody pending a March 3 court date in Rolling Meadows for the Class C misdemeanor.

&bul; The doorknob and locking mechanism of a rear door was pried and broken out at an unknown time and date from an uninhabited multiunit building in the 300 block of Fulton Street in Elgin, police reports said. Code enforcement declared the building uninhabitable based on code violations on Sept. 22, 2010 and police noticed the damage on a premise check Jan. 26. Police also found a broken window panel on another unit of the same building, reports said.

Algonquin

&bul; A 16-year-old boy was charged with posession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia, police reports said. He was arrested at 3:55 p.m. Jan. 21 on the 100 block of Oakleaf Road, and was released into the custody of his parents.
&bul; Chelsea Curnutt, 18, of the 900 block of Wedgewood Circle in Lake in the Hills, was arrested at 9:39 p.m. Jan. 21 at Meijer, 400 S. Randall Road, and charged with retail theft for taking a liquor bottle, police reports said. She was later released on a notice to appear, and is due in court Feb. 23.

Kane County

Someone broke into a home on the 35W600 block of Parsons Road near West Dundee between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. Sunday and stole a 46-inch LCD television, a Nintendo Wii, Apple laptop computer and the contents of a jewelry box, reports said.
