The fourth annual Peter Mayer Concert "A Night of Music" to benefit the animals of Heartland Animal Shelter will take place at 6:45 p.m. Jan. 28 at the Northbrook Theatre--Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Ave., Northbrook. Cystic fibrosis benefit
The 14th annual Fairmont Hotel Gala/Jean Banchet Awards for Culinary Excellence event, titled "Emerald City," will take place Jan. 28 at the Fairmont Chicago, Millennium Park, 200 N. Columbus Drive in Chicago. A cocktail reception is at 6 p.m.; followed by dinner and the awards' program at 8 p.m.; and then at 9:30 p.m., desserts, mixologists and dancing are featured at the After-Party. Chicago's finest chefs will prepare the dishes at the event, with all proceeds benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in their race for a cure. The evening also will feature a raffle, and silent and live auctions. Berghoff Catering in Wilmette and Prairie Grass Cafe in Northbrook are among the award nominees. Black tie preferred. UNICEF event

UNICEF hosts their Message of Hope Benefit: "Build Back Better -- One Year After the Earthquake in Haiti" from 6:30 to 11 p.m. Jan. 29 at the InterContinental Hotel Chicago, 505 N. Michigan Ave. in Chicago. Dinner, live and silent auctions, a raffle and dancing will be featured, along with recognition of the local organizations that are helping to rebuild Haiti. Proceeds will benefit UNICEF's on-going efforts in the country. Tickets are $350 per person, $3,500 for a table of 10. 

Art for a Cure
 
The EverestArt Salon for Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy will take place from 4:30-9 p.m. Feb. 2 at Everest, 440 S. LaSalle St., Chicago. The collection by artist Tim Anderson will be available for purchase with 50 percent of the proceeds being donated to the cause. The evening will also feature hors d'eouvers and champagne. The Chicago Auto Show's First Look For Charity will take place from 6:30-10:30 p.m. Feb. 10 at McCormick Place, 2301 S. Sushi 101
 
Nehara Group of Hadassah North Shore Chapter will continue their round the world eating theme with "Ladies Night Out, Making Sushi 101" at 7 p.m. Feb. 10 at a member's home in Vernon Hills. Michelle Kaboff will demonstrate sushi making and how to prepare Japanese food accompaniments. The cost is $25. Aerial Performance
 
The Mies van der Rohe will sponsor an aerialist performance by Elena Brocade in the Carr Chapel from 3-5 p.m. Feb. 13 on the Illinois Institute of Technology Campus at 3201 S. State Street, Chicago. Architect Carol Ross Barney will lecture on Mies' work for the Carr Chapel and other spiritual spaces with refreshments at the Pritzker Club that neighbors the Chapel. Interior Design
 
The Chai Group of Hadassah North Shore Chapter will hold a meeting from 1:30-4 p.m. Feb. 16 at Collaborate Design Studio, 849 N. Waukegan Road, Deerfield. Linda Eisenberg, interior designer, will discuss "Interior Design on a Budget." the cost is $18 to benefit Hadassah Hospital. History of Conversos
 
The Highland Park Group of Hadassah North Shore Chapter will hold an open meeting at 12:30 p.m. Feb. 16 at the Lakeside Congregation 1221 Lake Cook Road, Highland Park. The program feature Leah and Leslie Axelrod discussing "The History of the Conversos/Crypto Jews" Sephardic Jews of Spain and Portugal who hid their identities during the period of the Inquisition, and continue to do so even today. The meeting will feature an informal discussion titled "Madoff Madness" based on the book, The Madoff Chronicles...Inside the Secret World of Bernie and Ruth, written by Brian Ross, chief investigative correspondent, ABC News.
